The Concept:
I was initially inspired by pastel colours in a hazy room, how it feels to lose yourself in a daydream. The lights brought me back to childhood—how my mum dressed me up in pastel pink with flowers and pearls, and to middle school when pink was “too girly” and “girly” was seen as a bad thing. As women, we learn at a very young age that femininity is seen as “weak” and “childish” in this patriarchal society that tells women that softness in any sense of the word (soft colours, soft fabrics) is a weakness. In reality, softness is the foundation for empathy. Since becoming an adult, I’ve come to realise that girlhood is a privilege. Being able to play with dolls and wear tulle and be soft is something not all little girls get to do. Dreamscape is about hyper-femininity, it’s about reclaiming our matriarchal calling and giving a middle finger to those who correlate feminine energy with fragility.

The Concept:
A story of fatigue—when your mind is so heavy that your body refuses to function. When even getting out of bed feels like the most impossible thing to do; when all you can do is sink into your surroundings, drowning yourself in the pheromones of exhaustion.

The Concept:
Inspired by the process of making a cocktail, Last Call is directed and styled by Danica Hooper, in collaboration with cocktail hobbyist, Connor Sanders, and nail artist, Patricia. My partner and I have been hosting cocktail competitions amongst our friends since 2019 and we’ve learned a lot about mixology the past 7 years. Every time we have a competition, we both level up our game, so I thought: why not do a photoshoot inspired by what we’ve learned? And that’s what Last Call is about. I knew the shoot would be mostly product photography, but I didn’t want just your simple point and shoot, so I connected with Toronto nail artist Patricia to create some maximalist nails to go along the looks I had planned. Last Call is sleek with a subtle sense of humour. The process includes choosing the right glass, different kinds of ice, garnishes, and socialising, because a cocktail is best shared with friends!
